The Val Lishman Health Research Foundation Inc invites you to have a ball at the coming FESTIVAL OF YARNS 2010 Yarn spinners, bush poets and balladeers at Alverstoke Heritage Farm, Brunswick 2009 was a great day, we welcomed many "first time" attendees. Thanks go to sponsors The Bank of Queensland Bunbury branch and St Aidan wines, Ferguson Valley as well as guest artists, "Cobber" and Pedro Colum, supported by our amateur poets. Kate Wilson won
the "Tin Billy Trophy" with "Sabotage" and Adrian Egan the "Judges
Trophy" for "Dreaming Duranillin". Henry Mosley
(aged 92!!) was again highly entertaining, this time with
his true-life story "Bush Fire" .... reminiscences of his own
near death fighting fire in the 50's. Maja Plante yarned
her way to "Highly commended" with "Where the *** is
Northcliffe"........ and five other original poets kept us well
entertained. Planning for 2010 is underway!! We want the show to grow and change. It is a magnificent setting for a family outing with covered space in case of rain. It can be accessed from the SW highway, turn off to Clifton Rd in the middle of Brunswick Junction. Or from the Old Coast road from Bunbury, Clifton Rd is on the right, just after the Paris Road to Australind on the left. Road sign is to Brunswick. Free parking on site. Alverstoke is stunning. Original settlers wooden farm buildings and implements are grouped on sweeping green lawns. There is a big barn for shelter in case of rain and a beautiful formal heritage rose garden. It is still owned by the original Clifton family. Guests are invited to bring rug or chairs and a picinc to enjoy while being entertained. Bar, available. Gates open 10.30. The event closes at 4pm. Guest Artists: Change every year. Amateur competition . There are professional judges and modest prizes Adult section: Original works only. School kids' section: Original or recited classics One poem per
